You might be sitting next to one of us.
Meet Vera and Julian Cross
We are philanthropists, the kind who show up at galas and write checks for good causes. Julian teaches chemistry at the university. I paint, and show occasionally, though I've always been selective about where.
There's more to us than what meets the eye... We are art thieves. For over a decade, we've led a network that moves through galleries, private collections, and auction houses across the world. Julian's research has taken him into labs and universities most people never see, useful, it turns out, for more than chemistry. My exhibitions have opened doors that a painter alone wouldn't need. We have people in London, in Lagos, in Tokyo. We have people here in Charlotte.
By the time you arrive on November 7th, the piece will already be gone.
We moved it quietly. By the time anyone noticed, the transaction was already in motion, and it won't be finished until the night is over. Somewhere in that room is at least one member of our crew. Maybe more. You'll have one night to find them and stop the deal before it's too late.
This is our dare. We're confident enough to stand in the room with you and let you try. Nobody has caught us yet.
Everyone has a secret. Everyone is a suspect. We like our odds.
Only 75 spots are available this year. Small crews keep secrets better.
Some of you have played this game with us before. Some of you are new to it. Either way, we don't do this halfway, and this year, we're raising the stakes.
